Antique Display Case

Take a look at this wonderful antique display case!

Dimentions & Characteristics: The display case measures 8' wide, 28" deep, and 17" high (without the base.) The base makes the display case 45.5" high when sitting on it. The display case is oak and glass. There are 4 sliding doors on the back, each with a piece of shiny metal (not a mirror exactly) on the inside. The base, which is separate from the actual display case, is black and appears to be cast iron. (I have a piece of red fabric laying across the inside of the case. There are rough planks under it, and this is where the fragment of newspaper (shown in the photos) is located.

History: This display case is currently in the Georgetown Mercantile in Georgetown, Colorado. It was purchased by the current owners from the previous owners of the same building when the building changed hands. According to legend, it was sold to them by Henry Anderson, of Kneisel & Anderson, one of the oldest continiously operating store in Georgetown. As I was cleaning the back I ran across an old newspaper lodged between the shiny piece on the inside of the door and the wood outside piece. There were two of the same item - so it must have been of some importance. The newspaper was the Orphan's Friend, Boston March, 1905. There were no notations on any of the articles to indicate which was of so much importance that it was lodged for safe keeping between these two pieces of the display case. (I was tempted to take apart the other doors and see if there was anything in them!) The newspaper fragment found on the inside shows an ad for Kansas City, Mo. I was unable to find a date for this fragment.

Transportation: The buyer is responsible for the transportation of this piece. The price does not include transportation.
